About Volunteer Starkville

Volunteer Starkville is a community based nonprofit organization that connects nonprofits members and volunteers by promoting volunteer opportunities in Starkville, Oktibbeha County, and surrounding areas.  As a central hub we offer opportunities to serve and give back by becoming a volunteer leader in your community.  We provide information, resource, and training to our community partners and nonprofit organizations within the Golden Triangle Area including Oktibbeha, Clay, Winston, Noxubee, Webster, and Choctaw counties.

Volunteer Starkville operates under the 501(c)3 Green Starkville (www.greenstarkville.org) and is directed by its Board of Directors for Volunteer Starkville.

Volunteer Starkville is overseen by the Executive Director with the assistance of the Chief Volunteer Coordinator, and Public Relations Specialist.  Through our community partnerships we have a VISTA Volunteers, Youth Service Coordinator, Youth Recruiter, MSU Student Leader and community volunteers that coordinate volunteer opportunities for the community and surrounding areas. Our team efforts are to contribute to making Starkville and Oktibbeha County a model of volunteerism for Mississippi. 

Executive Director

Stefanie Ashford-Shackelford

Stefanie Ashford-Shackelford has dedicated her life to being a servant to others which has supported her development as a resilient leader. She has a true passion for people and loves sowing into the lives of others. Stefanie obtained her Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Mississippi. She is a passionate, results-driven visionary with 15 years experience in Nonprofit Administration. She has an extensive background in organizational structure, project development, management, grant writing, grant reporting, volunteer recruitment, marketing and public relations.

Stefanie began her career here in Starkville working with Community Counseling Center then move to Birmingham, Alabama. Her experience as social worker has been very rewarding and fruitful working with youth, women, children and families. Her social work career has blessed her with leadership opportunities at various nonprofit organizations. Stefanie served as Director of Group Homes for Hillcrest Associates, Director of Hope House for Family Connections, Inc, and at Oasis Women’s Counseling Center she served as Director of WholeHealth. Since her recent return home to Mississippi, she has worked with the Starkville School District, serves as the Coordinator for the Starkville Mayor’s Youth Council, owns and operates P.O.P Arts After-School Enrichment Program. She believes in giving back to her community and doing “good” for others. Her desire is to motivate Starkville to lift each other up and embrace the “Spirit of Giving.”

Valerie Marie Voigt is a native of Miami, Fl. She graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Family, Youth and Community Sciences. My goal in life is to have a career where I complete projects associated with uplifting and further developing communities. Some things I enjoy doing are watching movies, taking road trips and playing soccer. My walk with Christ is the most important thing to me. I enjoy meeting new people and finding ways to make everything enjoyable.
