Distinguished Young Women of Starkville, Positively Transforming Young Women

Distinguished Young Women is a national scholarship program that inspires high school girls to develop their full, individual potential through a fun, transformative experience that culminates in a celebratory showcase of their accomplishments. Distinguished Young Women strives to give every young woman the opportunity to further her education and prepare for a successful future.

The organizations provides college scholarships to allow opportunities for the young women to continue their education. Participants develop like skills through public speaking and mock interviews. The Be Your Best Self national outreach program presents the elements of the program: Be Healthy, Be Ambitious, Be Involved, Be Responsible, and Be Studious. Susan Keith, the coordinator, passionately states, “Through our community service projects with Brickfire, Girl Scouts, and local elementary schools, we are positively impacting the lives of not only the children of Starkville but our participants as well.”

Just as with any other nonprofit or organization, volunteers are vital to the success of the program. Volunteers are need to help with public relations, provide snacks/beverages, host parties, conduct mock interviews, organize service projects, backstage help during the showcase, and chair the Little Sister Program.
