Volunteer Recognition Ideas

At Volunteer Starkville, we recognize the importance of recognizing our community’s volunteers. People volunteer for many reasons – wanting to give back to their community, developing career-building skills, and just to have something to do, to name a few – but adulation is usually not one of them. Yet that is precisely why recognition is so important: people who selflessly give their time and energy to benefit others are worth all the praise we can give them. In addition, promoting volunteers and the work they do can help them feel appreciated, which will make them more likely to continue volunteering in the future. With that in mind, Volunteer Starkville utilizes many different ways to celebrate these hardworking people and their accomplishments including through our Volunteer Spotlight Blog, Annual Volunteer Awards Banquet, and the GIVE Awards.

Volunteer Spotlight Blog

Each month, Volunteer Starkville features an individual volunteer and volunteer group on our homepage for 2 weeks with an article highlighting their service experience during the past year. To read about current and former volunteer spotlights, visit our Volunteer Spotlight archive.

If you’d like to nominate either an individual or a group for a Volunteer Spotlight, complete and submit our Volunteer Spotlight Nomination Form.

Annual Volunteer Awards Banquet (April)

Volunteer Starkville and the Maroon Volunteer Center co-host an Annual Volunteer Awards Banquet during April as part of our National Volunteer Week festivities and celebration of service in our community. Each year, we recognize individual volunteers and volunteer groups/organizations for their volunteer efforts during the past year (January 1, 2016 – December 31, 2016) with several different awards presented at our banquet. The 2016 Volunteer Awards Banquet was held on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 6:00 PM in the Colvard Student Union’s Ballroom at Mississippi State University. The deadline to submit all individual and group service records was Monday, April 4, 2016 by 12:00 pm.

  • Nonprofit and For-Profit Organizations may request recognition Certificates and Letters of Thanks for up to *ten individual volunteers or volunteers groups from Volunteer Mississippi by completing and submitting the online Volunteer Recognition Request Form.
  • This special recognition is intended for volunteers who have given exceptional service, therefore up to ten may be requested at one time; and up to 30 may be requested annually.
