Oktibbeha County Excel By 5 Coalition, Helping Families and Children Succeed

The vision of Excel By 5 is to support families with children ages 0-5 by encouraging community-based collaborations to draw upon research-based best practices to use and enhance existing resources to optimize the care and education of young children by preparing them to enter school happy, healthy and with the skills they need to succeed. Excel By 5 seeks to provide community events that meet the unique needs of our families of young children and the early care educators. Excel By 5 has four focus areas: Community Involvement, Parent and Family Support, Early Care and Education, and Health. They conduct a community resources assessment every three years and use the results to determine the unique needs for community events and interest sessions.

Excel uses volunteers to help with community event planning, setup, assisting at the events, and cleanup. Their events are scheduled throughout the year with times varying from early evening hours to Saturday mornings. Their largest event, Back to School Bash, requires the most volunteers and is held annually on the last Saturday of July. They strive to better the education of children through annual book drives and providing resources to the local elementary schools.
