Annual Volunteer Awards Banquet

Volunteer Starkville and the Maroon Volunteer Center co-host an annual Volunteer Awards Banquet during April as part of our National Volunteer Week festivities and celebration of service in our community. Each year, we recognize individual volunteers and volunteer groups/organizations for their volunteer efforts during the past year (January 1, 2017 – December 31, 2017) with several different awards presented at our banquet. The 2018 Volunteer Awards Banquet (invite only event) is scheduled to be held on Monday, April 23, 2018.
*All individual and group service records must be submitted by Monday April 9, 2018 at 12:00 pm via one of the formats provided below.

Volunteer Awards, Criteria & Eligibility

Volunteer Starkville and the Maroon Volunteer Center award volunteers with several awards that are listed below. Please take notice that the award criteria for community volunteers is based on number of service hours performed during the service award period (January 1, 2017 – December 31, 2017) and the service hour requirement differs based on the age of a volunteer as well as the award level (gold, silver and bronze).  The following criteria is considered when choosing award recipients:
1) Total number of service hours performed during the service period;
2) Overall quality of service performed during the service period; and
3) Number of award applicants in each age category.
Please note that award recipients need to be residents of Clay, Oktibbeha or Winston County, MS to be eligible for consideration of an award. Also, meeting the service hours requirement for an award level, is not, in itself, a guarantee of receiving an award.

Community Service Excellence Award Criteria

Kids: Ages 5 – 14
*Gold Level – 100 or more hours
*Silver Level – 75 to 99 hours
*Bronze Level – 50 to 74 hours

Young Adults: Ages 15-25

* Gold Level – 250 or more hours
*Silver Level – 175 to 249 hours
*Bronze Level – 100 to 174 hours

Adults: Ages 26+

* Gold Level – 500 or more hours
*Silver Level – 250 to 499 hours
*Bronze Level – 100 to 249 hours

Families & Groups (two or more people with an average of 25 hours per member)

*Gold Level – 1,000 or more hours
*Silver Level – 500 to 999 hours
*Bronze Level – 200 to 499 hours

Volunteer Spirit Award Criteria 

Kids (Ages 5 – 14) – 25 to 49 hours
Young Adults & Adults (Ages 15+) – 50 to 99 hours
Families & Groups (average of 25 hours per member) – 100 to 199 hours

*Please note that any recipient of one of our Distinguished Annual Volunteer Awards during the past three years is not eligible for consideration.

Award Eligibility Criteria

  • Award recipients must be a resident of Clay, Oktibbeha or Winston County, MS.
  • Must submit a volunteer service record indicating the service you have performed (date, # of hours, description of volunteer tasks, and nonprofit service was performed for) from January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2017 to Volunteer Starkville no later than Monday April 9, 2018 by 12:00 P.M. (Eligible volunteer service hours are not limited to those performed on behalf of Volunteer Starkville. In fact, service hours can be accumulated through work on a variety of projects among numerous nonprofits/organizations throughout the year.)
