Starkville Area Arts Council, Encouraging Community Connection Through The Arts

Our small community has a number of wonderful organizations that contribute to our quaint little town. One such organization is The Starkville Area Arts Council (SAAC) which was created in 1996. Over the years, SAAC has grown into numerous programs and events to continue building an arts community in Starkville.  SAAC aims to build a strong, creative, connected community through the arts.

The Starkville Area Arts Council has a number of ways for the community to get involved! They have the Cotton District Arts Festival, which is a one day arts & cultural event in the Cotton District Area of Starkville, MS. They also have two art education programs: Art in the Park – a free hands on activity for children (and families) and Art Partners-an after school extra-curricular art education opportunity. SAAC does not just create fun activities to attend, they also strive to promote art through a variety of programs. There Art in Public Places helps to provide venues for local artists to sell their work. Grants and scholarships are awarded for artistic merit and community programming to create a broad, connected art community.

Volunteers are always welcome to help out at both date specific and ongoing opportunities! SAAC is need of volunteers for the Cotton District Arts Festival, which requires more than 100 volunteers, and Art in the Park, which requires more than 75 volunteers. These opportunities are great for individuals and groups that need to meet specific volunteer hours.  Pumpkinpalooza is a great event for social groups to help kids paint pumpkins. Approximately 20 volunteers are needed for Pumkinpalooza. If volunteers are interested in fundraising events, they can help out at SAAC’s Forks & Corks (culinary competition) and the Annual Gala (semi-formal affair).

This year has been a year of transition for SAAC with the hiring of their first Executive Director. It is a great opportunity to organize and communicate better so that people joining or volunteering withSAAC is an easy, fulfilling activity!

Thank you, Starkville Area Arts Council, for your efforts, for your great help in our community, and for your excellence in volunteerism!
