Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity: Building Homes for Local Families

Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity creates affordable homeownership to low and moderate income families who would otherwise not be able to afford a home mortgage. The Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to end substandard housing in Oktibbeha County and to break family cycles of poverty by using homeownership as a foundation for asset development. Thanks to Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity, many locals are given the opportunity to have a home.

Habitat has a number of services and volunteer opportunities available. Starkville Habitat for Humanity provides an opportunity for low-income working families to apply for a Habitat home. A Habitat Resale Store offers the purchase of donated household items and fixtures at a reasonable price. The Resale Store is operated by volunteers with all proceeds going into the building of a home. Volunteers are welcome for the following volunteer opportunities:

Worksite Volunteers: No prior construction experience is needed. Houses are built from March through June and August through November.

Habitat Resale Store: Volunteers are needed on the first and third Saturday of each month from 8:00 AM – 11:00 PM. Volunteers are also need for weekly merchandise pick ups each Thursday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
